Sandra Dee Baker is a self-taught emerging collage artist who discovered her interest for abstract artistic expression in art therapy venues over 3 years ago.
Most of her paintings are created and designed with cut or torn painted paper. She works in an organic manner allowing the work to evolve as she puts pieces on the paper. There is movement in all her work. She loves working with bold and vibrant colors and mainly works in watercolor, acrylic, and ink.
She completed her first collage piece titled, “The Maze” in January 2015. Which was Exhibited at the New Britain Museum of American art January 2016. The Maze is a part of her narrative and an attempt to express the impact of growing up without a compass and her search for a way out. It captures her despair and her pursuit for healing, truth and life. Sandra continues to explore these various themes in all of her work and is looking forward to seeing what will emerge next on the journey.
Over the past few years, Sandra has felt blessed to be embraced by members of the art community in Connecticut and Boston and has been selected to participate in juried shows, galleries, art fairs and has won some awards. Her work was has been featured at The New Britain Museum of Art, The Mattatuck Museum, Slater Memorial Museum, The Brookline Art Center, The Barnes-Frank Gallery, Spectrum Gallery, Loft Artists Association, Art Center East, Open Studios Hartford, The Community Renewal Team National Arts Foundation and the Bruce Museum’s Fine Art fair.
